Top Tips When Line Marking On Concrete

If you are embarking on line marking onto concrete, it’s important to follow the below tips to ensure your next line marking project runs smoothly and effectively.

When Should You Apply Line Marking Onto Newly Poured Concrete?

We highly recommend leaving newly poured concrete alone for at least 4 weeks to allow the concrete to cure correctly. Especially here on the Gold Coast where we receive plenty of sun and rain depending on the season. If applied too early, paint can lift, crack and shift depending on the time between concrete curing and paint application. Be sure to leave a newly laid slab for at least 4 weeks to ensure you don’t have to rush back to a work site in order to fix or repair damaged line marking work.

Should You Start Line Marking on Wet Concrete?

We highly advise not to start any line marking until the concrete slab is cured for at least 4 weeks as described above. Due to the vast amounts of rain, we can receive here in South East Queensland, Angle Line Marking can efficiently assess whether your slab is safe and dry enough to perform line marking on. Angle Line Marking always strives to carry out all projects effectively, the first time! Performing Line Marking on wet concrete can be a nightmare in the long run due to peeling, cracking and much more.

Added Compounds or Additives to Concrete

When a slab is needed to be at a certain standard, additives and compounds may be added in order to fasten or slow down cure time, smooth or seal the surface and even prevent dusting. These elements can affect the stick of paint to the surface area. If this applies to your slab, ensure you take additional care when applying road paint or entrust a professional to carry out these line marking services. If in doubt, contact Angle Line Marking today and we can assist with adhesion testing.
As there are many circumstances where incorrect use of additives can ruin a commercial line marking project.
